I’ve been working from home for almost a year now and, like many others who are navigating this new work/life balance, I’m finding myself working harder (and longer) than I ever did while in office.
I’ve shouldered more stress and anxiety than usual, which has forced me to find new ways to preserve my mental sanity. Enter: Peloton.
Let me clarify first. I’m not a fitness junkie or gym rat. I don’t run. My face turns beet red when I do any form of exercise. But my Peloton bike has been one of the few things I’ve relied on to maintain good mental health.
It’s my motivational pep talk. My refresh button. My confidence boost. As good as it is for my physical health, it’s twice as beneficial for my mental health.
Without a doubt, the instructors make the difference between a workout you dread and one you look forward to. Some days, I feel like Robin Arzón – my favorite instructor – is my life coach / therapist / mentor / best friend. Her classes have made me laugh, dance, sing, clap and even cry. They’re cathartic in every sense of the word.
That’s why when I need a midday pick-me-up, I hop on my bike and sweat it out. One of the advantages of working from home is having the flexibility to exercise during my lunch break without completely derailing the entire day.
